ONDO State Governor, Dr Olusegun MImiko, has commissioned the second phase of the Isinkan Caring Heart Neighbourhood Market built by his administration in Akure at the cost of N253 million by direct labour. The governor explained at the commissioning that his administration adopted the construction of modern markets as a pivot for inner city renewal, adding that 20 of such markets have so far been built in different parts of the state.Mimiko also disclosed that the amount spent on the market included the cost of building 492 open and lock-up shops, reclamation of two hectares of land, building of asphalt-laid access road, police post, clinics, crche, fire station and toilets among others.'This is a classical example of value for money, respect for public funds and speedy delivery of projects that would have direct impact on the majority of the populace. We have fully maximized the use of public funds by our approach and the state is better for it,' he said. The governor also on the occasion witnessed the distribution of N26.5millioncheques as soft loans to the various associations in the market by the state's Micro Credit Agency, to enable traders to have access to funds that would boost their businesses. Some of the traders had earlier benefitted from a N10million soft loan given to some of the associations when phase one of the market was inaugurated in 2010.
