Journalists allege intimidation in Delta

There was drama in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday when a mob allegedly attacked the correspondents of the Daily Independent, Nigerian Compass and The Sun newspapers in the city.Over 200 irate youths reportedly invaded The Sun office in Asaba, threatening to set it ablaze for publishing a report which they claimed was against some persons in high places.It was learnt that the rampaging youths allegedly searched in vain for the Daily Independent reporter, Felix Igbekoyi, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.Also threatened were his counterparts in the Nigerian Compass, Dominic Adewole and Paul Osuyi of The Sun.The article which reportedly irked the youths was that certain unsavoury occurrences took place during the presentation of the states 2012 budget to the House of Assembly by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.The governor had presented the budget proposal of over N383bn when some youths laid siege to the Assembly complex, demanding a fair deal in the governance of the state.However, the Sales Representative of The Sun, was not so lucky as the mob allegedly subjected him to various forms of harassment.They repeatedly demanded to see correspondent, whom it was learnt, took off when he got the information that the youths were mobilising to attack him.
