NDE empowers 530 Kogi youths

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in Kogi State says it has empowered 530 unemployed youths in the state under its Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (B-NOAS).The NDE Coordinator in the state, Malam Abdulkadiri Saadu, made the disclosure in Lokoja while disbursing resettlement equipment to 30 youths who completed their training under the NDE's apprenticeship scheme.He said the scheme was adopted as one of the strategies by the directorate to address the growing problem of youth unemployment in the state.The coordinator said that 500 youths who graduated earlier from B-NOAS were given equipment (resettled) to start their own micro-businesses.'Today, additional 30 youths are being resettled, bringing the total to 530 trainees resettled so far,' he said.Saadu also revealed that 15 master craftsmen were given capacity upgrading loan to enable them expand their businesses and enhance their training capabilities.One of the beneficiaries who responded on behalf of his colleagues, Malam Sadiq Abduljalili, promised to make judicious use of the equipment to create more jobs for others to benefit from.It was learnt that the youths were trained in carpentry, electronics, auto mechanic, tailoring, hair dressing and vulcanising, as well as electrical installation, welding, battery charging, panel beating, generator and handset repairs.
