Ondo govt acquires 92 buildings for construction of motor park

Published by Tribune on Mon, 19 Dec 2011

The Ondo State government said it had acquired no fewer than 92 old buildings in the heart of Akure for the construction of a N300 million modern motor park. The Commissioner for Works, Gboye Adegbenro, who disclosed this, also said government had fully paid compensation to the owners of the buildings affected by the construction.Speaking during the inspection of some projects in the town, the commissioner said the aim of the motor park was to decongest traffic on major streets in the state capital.Adegbenro also stated that the project, which would be inaugurated as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Governor Olusegun Mimiko's administration, would have a clinic, a police post, modern boreholes and fire service station, among others. He said, 'the car park will be able to accommodate over 2,000 vehicles at a point and the place will have adequate security personnel, and it will be illuminated throughout the night.'Shop owners on Oba Adesida Road and their customers will henceforth, park their cars at the facility, and carry out their legitimate activities without obstructing free flow of traffic'.Apart from this, Adegbenro added that 18 other car parks were being constructed on the Oba Adesida, Oyemekun and Arakale roads to further ease flow of traffic within the metropolis. The commissioner, who was also at the construction work on the controversial road leading Adaba FM, denied insinuation that the construction of a bridge on the road was politically motivated. He said, 'the material on the road were not suitable for such construction and it has to be excavated and replaced with stronger, suitable ones''The spot on the Adaba FM road, currently under construction, is waterlogged and would be depressed if the excavation carried out was not done. The technical details must be interpreted and followed for a good job to be executed.'He, however, said that one side of the Adaba FM road would be opened to motorists in the next few days as the contractors were already working on the site.
