Governor presents 2012 budget proposal to Kaduna lawmakers

Published by Guardian on Mon, 19 Dec 2011

GOVERNOR of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, has proposed a total budget of N154.33 billion for the 2012 fiscal year before the legislators in the State House of Assembly.Besides, the figure Yakowa presented before the Lawmakers is about N17.77 billion more that the 2011 budget of N136.56 billion.Presenting the proposal on the floor of the Assembly recently, Yakowa regretted that the post-presidential election violence last April had a negative impact on the performance of the 2011 budget.According to Yakowa, 'the violence retarded our efforts at socio-economic and infrastructural development and redirected them towards reconciliation/ rehabilitation of crisis victims and return to normalcy, peace and security in the state.'In an effort to get a road map for our development in the next three to four years, we constituted a high-powered committee, under the Chairmanship of the former Head of Service, Abubakar Mustapha, to review the policy and structure of the state government.'Tagged'Budget of Peace, Unity and Growth'for 2012, the Governor said that the budget would emphasize on internally generated revenue given what he described as unstable allocation from the Federation Account.'Government has therefore decided that it has to rely more on its internally generated revenues as its major source of financing future development projects.'As a result of this, I have set up a Revenue Generation Enhancement Committee to explore and tap all sources of revenue in the state and to underscore the importance government attaches to this new focus, thecommittee is under my chairmanship,' Yakowa said.Whilegiving a breakdown of funding for the budget, he stated that government expects an internally generated revenueof N35.739 billion, N48 billion from the Federation Account and Capital Receipts of N38.874 billion.
