Kwara govt presents N91.7bn budget proposal

GovernorAbdulfatahAhmed of Kwara State has presented the 2012 Appropriation Bill of N91.7 billion (N91,700,124,863) to the state House of Assembly.Delivering the budget speech at the Assembly complex on Monday, the governor said the 2012 budget was higher than N64.1 billionbudget for 2011, which showed an increase of 42 per cent.The sectoral breakdown of the 2012 budget showed that road construction and rehabilitation took the largest share of N11.5 billion.Education and human capital development took N8.5 billion; health shared N3.8 billion while agriculture took N2.6 billion.Governor Ahmed said the 2012 budget comprised four major components of recurrent and capital budget estimates of the state government, including Total Recurrent Revenue: N60,961,580, 730; Recurrent Expenditure: N40,911,914,817; Capital Receipts N43,95,210,46; Capital Expenditure N43,95,210,46.Governor Ahmed, who said his administration had outlined seven priority policy strategies in education, agriculture, health, energy, solid mineral development, environment and security, added that the 2012 budget had been formulated to enhance the welbeing of the people based on these seven priority areas.It will be recalled that after his assumption of office, Governpr Ahmed forwarded a draft supplementary budget proposal to the Kwara State House of Assembly for approval in order to address new priority areas not anticipated in the 2011 budget.The governor, who said his administration had, since then, made significant progress in its efforts on good governance, added that he had made provision for 2,000 youth jobs, among others.
