Ajimobi seeks support for reform agenda

GOVERNOR Abiola Ajimobi has solicited the support of the people of Oyo State towards the successful implementation of the restoration, transformation and repositioning agenda of his administration.Ajimobi, who spoke on Sunday at the state 2011 Nine Lessons and Christmas Carol Service held at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Ibadan, said his vision of improving the lots of the people could only be realised with the support of all and sundry. He called on religious leaders to intensify their prayers for the progress of the state.He charged those in authority to use their positions to glorify God and for the benefit of mankind, reminding them that such positions are transient.'The lessons of this Carol establish the transient nature of life. It tells us that we are here temporarily and whatever position we find ourselves, we must always remember God. We got to this position by the grace of God and we will do well and leave Oyo State better than we met it', the governor said.According to a statement, Ajimobi enjoined the people to always exhibit the spirit of love, sacrifice, service to humanity and forgiveness of people to enjoy the blessings of God.'Many of you prayed for me before I became governor. Some of you prayed against me, but I have forgiven you all. So, we must forgive. To make a change, you may have to step on toes. But whatever we do, if there are mistakes, just know that they are mistakes of the head and not of the heart. I mean well. So, forgive me anytime I step on your toes', the governor pleaded.In his sermon, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Pastor Ayo Olabisi, called on Christians to emulate Jesus Christ in the areas of love, discipline, perseverance and forgiveness.While urging the Federal Government to avoid implementing policies that could destabilise the nation, he stressed the need for the government to seek the opinions of the people before implementing policies.The cleric also called on the government to intensify efforts in the areas of power generation, employment creation and poverty alleviation.
