Refining overseas

The recent revelation by the GMD of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that Nigeria is refining 65,000bpd crude oil in Cote d'Voire is disheartening. It sounds somewhat paradoxical that we export crude oil to Cote d'Voire for refining. I have always argued that we know the solution to our problems but lack the political will to implement it. Nations are not transformed through dictatorial fiat as being preached daily by our President but rather through initiatives and right policies. Jonathan promised to transform the country but the perception of underachievement persists. It is like we have accepted failure as an option, if not why are the refineries not working' Why retain the workers and pay them good salaries for non-production' We can only move forward as a nation if the leaders are genuinely interested in developing the country and key appointments not given out as compensations for electoral and political failures. The President should do things differently, inculcate the culture of cost containment and break the existing culture of impunity.
