Communities lament 3 months of darkness in Oluyole LG

IT was lamentation galore for residents of three communities in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State who have lived without light for almost three months, courtesy of the failure of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to provide electricity for the communities.The communities are Olomi, Olunde and Jaloke. Community News learnt that the power supply to the communities had been cut off for some time now, forcing the residents to depend on generators for their electricity needs.Also, artisans like welders and other people that depend on electricity for their source of livelihood, have been relocating to other areas due to the problems.Some of the residents told Community News that they decided to cry out due to the recent increase in fuel price which has made it hard for them to maintain their generators.Community News learnt that the frustration of power failure in the areas had also forced some people to storm Olorunsogo PHCN office and set the building ablaze. 'We have been living without light for almost three months now. The current fuel situation has compounded our situation. It is terrible. We are calling on PHCN to help us provide solution to the problem.'Apart from making life unbearable for people, it is also threatening the security of the areas as men of the underworld are already taking advantage of the perpetual darkness to torment the people. We appeal to PHCN to save us from the situation. It is affecting our well-being, Alhaji Fatai Adio, a community leader in Olunde area, told Community News.It was learnt that the power outage in the areas mentioned was due to repair works being carried out by PHCN on one of its stations at Ayegun area of Oluyole Local Government.
