Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has assured Christians and non-indigenes of their safety, saying his administration was collaborating with security agencies ensure safety and protection of lives and property in the state.Gaidam spoke yesterday through his Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Abdullahi Bego.He said in the wake of the recent security challenges facing the state and the nation, his administration has provided logistics and other support to the security agencies, especially the army and police and has also provided a transport palliative to support intra-town commuting when it became necessary to ban the use of motorcycles in some parts of the State for security reasons. The governor noted that while all hands were deck to improve security across the state, some mischief makers have been circulating messages, falsely claiming that 'Yobe was boiling' and that churches were being set ablaze.'These text messages are false and are clearly designed to conflate the situation at a time that the government and Christian and Muslim communities in the state are engaged in various efforts and prayers for God Almighty to deliver us out of the crises.'The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Yobe State Chapter, Rev. Idi Garba and the State Commissioner of Police Lawal Tanko had featured in a joint NTA Damaturu TV programme on January 14th 2012 where they asked people to discountenance those false text messages,' he said.Gaidam urged residents to discountenance rumour mongers and mischief makers and join hands to ensure the return of normalcy to the state and the country.
