Offa needs new market

THE Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye II, has said that the ancient town of Offa deserved a modern major market.The traditional ruler, who said there was no town as big and relevant as Offa with only one major market, added that the decongestion of Owode Market and the development of the Kara market along Osogbo road was long overdue.Speaking at the inauguration of the Offa Local Government Land Allocation Advisory Committee at the council secretariat, the Olofa said that the development of Kara market was important to enhance the revenue profile of the local government and create more employment opportunities.Also speaking, the Chairman of the local government, Prince Saheed Popoola, said that there had been backlog of requests from the public, adding that the council was being patient in the allocation process to avoid distortion of the master plan as it was evidenced in Owode market.The council boss, who has also made the Olofa of Offa the permanent chairman of the reconstituted land committee, said the local government was not capable of settling land issues alone, adding that this had resulted to a backlog of unresolved matters.The 14-member committee has the Onidun of Igboidun, the High Chiefs including Essa, Ojomu, Shawo and Balogun as members.Others are the land officer in Offa, area town planning officer, area agric officer, area surveyor and supervisor for Works, land and housing. The terms of reference of the committee include to look into any matter connected with management of land in Offa and advise the council appropriately.
