Kano explosions changed the way we see things 'Shekarau

Published by Daily Trust on Thu, 26 Jan 2012

Kano State's former governor Ibrahim Shekarau said last Friday's bomb blasts and exchange of gun fire between security operatives and Boko Haram members in Kano have changed the way Nigerians see things and the way they see each other.Speaking in a statement in Kano yesterday, Shekarau sympathized with Kano people over the incident and said the violence has 'devastated our thoughts and traumatized our existence'.'I sincerely offer my condolences to the bereaved families and to all citizens of Kano State. I pray to the Almighty God for the repose of the souls of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injury and I pray for the renewal of wealth for those who, in one way or another, lost their properties in the inferno. I also pray that we have seen the last of the violence,' he said. For a long time, he said, peace has reigned in the state, so much so that tranquillity best described the atmosphere in Kano, saying it would take a long time for people of the state to recover. He said Nigerians were going through a period of grief and mourning and that the Federal Government 'is yet to decisively address the issues to stem the ill-fated trend facing the nation.'The former governor called on President Goodluck Jonathan to summon a meeting of the National Council of State and seek its guidance in resolving the current stalemate on security and fashion out a way forward for a peaceful and united Nigeria.
