Ogun provides 20 communities with boreholes

Twenty communities across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State have been provided with boreholes by the state government, in a bid to provide potable water for the citizens of the state.In a statement signed by the Information Officer in the Ministry of Special Duties, Kemi Oyeleye, said that the step was in line with the cardinal objectives of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration at ensuring the development of infrastructure at the grass roots, leading to the provision of borehole water schemes in small towns and rural communities.The boreholes, according to the statement, were powered by generating sets and have been functioning at optimal capacity to the communities.The maintainance of these facilities have since been taken over by the communities on behalf of the government.The Director of Water Supply in the Bureau of Water Resources and Rural Development, Mr Muritala Adekunle said the provision of rural water was still on going.He said, "We are still working on some other communities. As of now, we have completed 20 communities.'Adekunle observed that Ogun State was blessed with pure underground water, adding that the iron compound found in some still fall within the World Health Organisation (WHO) limit.Communities that benefited from the borehole water scheme included Itoko, Mechanic villages, Lagos Road, Ajebo Road and kobape, Arepo, Moloko-Asipa, Siun 1 and 2 from the Ogun Central Senatorial District.Those in the Ogun East Senatorial District included Isiwo, Ayepe, Our Lady of Apostle school, Irewon and Eja Osan, Ijebu-Ode.Others were Maun, Alaari, Owode-Yewa, Erinpa-Apena, Asore, Iperin and Ilupeju Area of Ayetoro Yewa all within the Ogun West Senatorial District.
