Published by Guardian on Mon, 06 Feb 2012

Ejike Okoye's romance with acting started when he was a member of his church drama group. Today, the Amawbia, Awka South Local Council, Anambra State-born has many films to his credit. They include Isakaba, Far From Home, American Hustler, Legacy, Black Angels and others. Last year, the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, (ESUT) Marketing graduate was awarded Best Actor in Leading Role in Diaspora Films by Nollywood African Film Critics Awards (NAFCA) for his role in Far From Home, written and directed by George Kalu. Ejike tells GERALDINE AKUTU what fashion means to him. What's your definition of fashion'It's wearing stuffs that suit and make one comfortable. Those clothes that suit one's lifestyle and personality.Style of dressingI don't really have a particular style. I dress according to the occasion or event. Most stylish iconGucci, John Varvatos, Roca wear, Vivienne Westwood and others.Favourite piece of clothingSincerely, I don't have any; but I know I love traditional attires, T-shirts and jeans. I am a simple man, so, I love simpleand nice outfits. Favourite colour and whyCarton colour, because it matches my skin. I love it right from my childhood. How often do you change your wardrobe'I have never changed my entire wardrobe, but I buy clothes every week and whenever I see any outfit that I like, I go for it not minding the costs, especially when my wife appreciates it. Favourite signature scentThey are Curve and Eternity by Calvin Klein. What influenced your choice of career as an actor'It started in my teens when I participated in Church dramas, interpreting Biblical roles to the admiration of church members. With this, a friend invited me to an audition, at which I was successful. I was given a role in the movie, School Outlaws, that never saw the light of the day. That ignited my passion to venture into acting.Your views about the movie industry The industry is generally improving and expanding, but it's yet to attain its maximum potentials. However, things are now getting better than what they were in the 80s and 90s. The cinema culture is gradually returning and we are making progress in our stories, but distribution and piracy still need to be checked.Role models in the movie industry They are Pete Edochie, Olu Jacobs and Genevieve Nnaji. While in Hollywood, I fancy Bruce Willis and Angelina Jolie. Most cherished possession My wife and kids. I love them so much and thank God for making them a part of me.Choice holiday destinationThough, I've visited places such as Holy land of Experience, Disney World, Universal Studio and others in the United States, I look forward to spending my vacation in Egypt, the Bahamas and Jamaica.Describe yourself in three wordsI'm God-fearing, gentle and humble.Philosophy of life Put God first in everything you do, and do not be ashamed to ask questions when you are not sure of a particular thing. What would you change if given the chance to run the country'I would like to see the people live in unity and peace. I would also like to see good roads, more jobs created, steady power and adequate water supply.
