Keshi reduces foreign based slot in Eagles

Published by Tribune on Fri, 10 Feb 2012

NIGERIA coach, Stephen Keshi has said he will not invite more than 20 overseas pros for a 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in Rwanda this month. The Super Eagles coach told MTNFootball.com that he could in the same vein increase the number of players from the domestic league on the trip to Kigali on February 29."I will not invite more than 20 foreign-based players for the Rwanda game. I could even invite less, because I don't see any wisdom in inviting players who would not be used. I will list only 18 players for the game and the rest would be on the bench," Keshi disclosed. The coach though was guarded about his call-ups for his first competitive game in charge of the Eagles."I cannot tell you who makes the list right now but you would find out next week. I have a game against Liberia and that comes first," he said."However what I could tell you is that I would decide on the number of the home-based players for the Rwanda game with the Liberia game."On whether he would stick with the eight slots he had promised players in the NPL, the former Mali and Togo coach stated: "I cannot confirm whether or not they would have the eight slots, but I do know that I want more of them to make the team but it's up to them to fight for it.'If they convince me that they deserve to be on the Rwanda list and they are more than eight, good, but if they are less I would make do with what I have."Keshi's team of players from the league will take on an Abuja-based side, Voice of Nigeria (VON) FC, today in a warm-up game ahead of the trip to Liberia.
