Messi equals scoring record

BARCELONA forward, Lionel Messi has equaled the record for scoring the most goals away from home in one Champions League season following his strike in Barcelona's 3-1 Champions League round of 16 first-leg win against Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Tuesday.The Argentina international followed in the footsteps of stars such as Jari Litmanen (1995-96), Hernan Crespo (2002-03) and Thierry Henry (2002-03) when he netted his seventh Champions League goal in an away game on Tuesday.Additionally, the goal at the BayArena meant that Messi broke the competition record with his 19th strike in knockout games.Raul and Andriy Shevchenko netted 18 times in the knockout stages of the Champions League.Messi's goal versus Leverkusen was his 98th Barcelona goal outside Camp Nou in 160 official appearances.Meanwhile, the attacker has admitted that it will be difficult for Barcelona to retain their Liga title."It was important to change the chip after what's happened in the league. It will be very difficult to win La Liga, but we will keep on going until the end."Barcelona have fallen 10 points behind their arch-rivals in the league table following last weekend's results.
