Here's why New York men are so keen on wearing a beard or mustache

Published by Business Insider on Thu, 25 Jun 2015

Top fashionistas may say that beards aregoing out of styleor are"over and done," but New York City's men haven't gotten the memo.According to a recent survey by Braun, which makes electric razors and beard trimmers, most male New Yorkers still have facial hair. The survey of more than 1,000 local men, which asked about their grooming habits, found that about 67 percentstill rock a beard or mustache. The survey contains quirky factoids about New Yorkers' beards, like the average time it takes to grow what city dwellers consider 'the perfect beard' (67 days) and where you're most likely to find a bearded fellow in Manhattan (the Upper East Side).Braun also looked into why men decided to grow a beard in the first place.Sixty percent of survey's participants grew their beards out of convenience, the clipper manufacturer reported.Chelsea resident Steve Karas, a 28-year-old hair stylist, called beards a 'clich' but said the style's minimal effort has helped the look endure.'The only reason why we still see them is because men are a lot lazier than before,' he said. 'We do not want to shave every single day. It's very, very annoying so beards will always be 'in' for that reason.'Check out more stats from the survey below:Braun's Guide to New York City BeardsSEE ALSO:Follow these simple tips if you want to take good care of your beard this summer DON'T FORGET:Follow Business Insider's Lifestyle page on Facebook!Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: 7 outdated fashion rules that men can now ignore
