Published by Bleacher Report on Sun, 12 Jul 2015

Bangladesh claimed a convincing seven-wicket victory in the second one-day international against South Africa in Dhaka on Sunday to tie the three-match series at 1-1.Batting first, the Proteas were bowled out for just 162 to give Bangladesh a great chance of victory.Despite a nervy start to the chase, Soumya Sarkar andMahmudullah steadied the ship with a 135-run partnership that saw the hosts to victory with 134 balls to spare.South Africa captain Hashim Amla rightly credited a terrific Bangladesh performance after the match, per ESPN Cricinfo:The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Similarly to the first ODI, neitherAmla nor Quinton de Kock was able to make a significant contribution to the score.De Kock, who made 35 in Friday's match, was this time out for just two, caught at backward point after a short ball fromMustafizur Rahman looped off the shoulder of the bat.Amla and Faf du Plessis batted eight overs together before the skipper was bowled byRubel Hossain. Rilee Rossouw then went cheaply, missing a straight one fromNasir Hossain, and David Miller was dismissed for just nine byMahmudullah. At 74 for four, the Proteas were struggling. Du Plessis' knock came to an end as he holed out to long-on for 41 and Bangladesh were ecstatic.JP Duminy couldn't turn things around, and of the five final batsmen, onlyFarhaan Behardien made a decent contribution, scoring 36 before being the last man to fall toMashrafe Mortaza.South Africa were all out for 162 from 46 overs, a remarkably similar score batting first as Bangladesh made in the first ODI, per ESPN Cricinfo:The Tigers were very much in the driving seat ahead of their innings, but they lost two early wickets to give the South Africans some hope.Kagiso Rabadathe match-winner on debut in the first ODIwas at it again on Sunday, as he bowled Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das to leave Bangladesh at 24 for two. However, Sarkar andMahmudullah dug in to get their side back on track. With such a small target to chase, the pair had plenty of time to play themselves in.WhileMahmudullah went that route, Sarkar scored at a healthy rate. Hisunbeaten 88 came from just 79 balls and proved to be the key knock in the game.Ably assisted byMahmudullahwho scored 50 from 64 balls before promptly being dismissed by Kyle Abbott with Bangladesh just four short of the targetSarkar hit 14 boundaries, including one maximum. The six was a slog sweep to win the match and topped off a brilliant effort from Bangladesh to tie the seriesthey also confirmedqualificationto the 2017 Champions Trophy.Chittagong hosts the final ODI ahead of the two-match Test series, and Bangladesh will have their tails up following Sunday'sterrificdisplay.
