NCF to approach embassies for support

Published by Guardian on Wed, 29 Feb 2012

THE Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) will start meeting embassies and high commissions of major cricket countries in its search for ways of growing the game in Nigeria. The meeting with the missions, according to NCF, has become necessary in its bid to secure equipment and facilities through donations from the embassies for the development of the game in Nigeria.According to the NCF Chief Executive Officer, George Wiltshire, who revealed that the decision was taken during the federation's recent board meeting, 'we have a lot to gain from those embassies where cricket is a major national game hence our resolve to liaise with them.'Wiltshire also disclosed that the meeting appraised the NCF's Vision 2013 and noted the ones accomplished, just as it approved the federation's 2012 budget. Among other things, Wiltshire disclosed that the meeting considered and noted the chief operating officer's report for the year ended 2011, as well as the unaudited 2011 financial report.'The board deliberated on the International Cricket Council's directive that national federations should be autonomous and free from interference from government in the administration of their affairs and resolved that this be communicated to the National Sports Commission,' he said. .'We also reviewed the 2011 calendar of events of the federation and noted the achievements attained, while we referred the calendar of events for 2012 to the technical committee for further input.'Among other issues brought before the board was the report of the interview panel on the recruitment of a national coach subject to the ICC's recommendation, Wiltshire said, adding that the board approved his appointment as NCF Chief Operating Officer.
