Kogi seeks FG's assistance in water project scheme

KOGI State Governor, Idris Wada, has solicited the assistance of the Federal Government in the expansion and reticulation of Greater Lokoja water scheme.Wada, who made this appeal in Abuja during a working visit to the Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe said the required expansion is needed to serve the newly established federal university and Naval Base sited in the state.The water project, according to him, was constructed at the cost of N13.2 billion by the immediate past governor of the state, Ibrahim Idris, and recently commissioned by President Goodluck Jonathan.The governor urged the minister to ensure that the Federal Government embarks on the expansion of the project, adding that President Jonathan had earlier promised to assist the state during the commissioning of the project.Wada reiterated the commitment of his administration in providing potable water supply to the residents of the state, noting that it would be a big shame if the government fails in this regard, considering the fact that the state is surrounded by Rivers Niger and Benue.The minister enumerated many water projects being undertaken by the Federal Government in the state.Ochekpe pointed out that Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) programme being implemented in 33 states of the federation and Abuja was an innovative approach developed to sustain adequate sanitation and improved hygiene in communities and households.
