Lakers Rumors: Hottest News, Trade Buzz Regarding Ty Lawson, Nick Young and More

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 18 Jul 2015

This offseason has already been a busy one for the Los Angeles Lakers as they look to get themselves back in contention in the Western Conference, but their transformation may not be complete quite yet.L.A. has already brought in the likes of Roy Hibbert, Louis Williams, Brandon Bass, D'Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. through trades, free agency and the draft. If the Lakers are going to truly make it tough on the opposition in 2015-16, though, more has to be done.As the offseason wears on and the upcoming campaign draws closer, here is a look at the latest trade rumors making the rounds in Laker land.Ty LawsonTy Lawson has been the Denver Nuggets' undisputed starting point guard for the past four years, and he has largely done a great job as arguably the NBA's best player to not make an All-Star team during that time. Even so, Lawson's time among the Rocky Mountains could be nearing its end.Not only is Denver looking to change the complexion of its team after missing the playoffs in back-to-back years, but it may also want to move Lawson on in order to get away from his off-court distractions. The 27-year-old star was recently arrestedon suspicionof driving under the influence of alcohol, which was his second such arrest this year.Despite the former University of North Carolina standout's obvious issues, Chris Mannix of SI.com has heard the Lakers are among a handful of teams showing interest in trading for him.As pointed out by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the seventh-year pro could potentially be had at a bargain price:Dealing for Lawson would be a significant risk, considering his off-court situation, but he is taking steps to get better. According to ESPN, he will enter a DUI rehabilitation center. Even though Lawson's status as a Nuggets player is now tenuous at best, general manager TimConnelly has been publicly supportive of his road to recovery:"Ty is going through a rough time right now, but we're all behind him," Connelly said. "Ty's a really good person. He's a Nugget, so when one of our guys goes through issues, we support him as a family and everyone stands behind him."Lawson is coming off a season in which he averaged 15.2 points and a career-high 9.6 assists per game, but after the Nuggets selectedEmmanuelMudiay in the first round of the draft and re-signed Jameer Nelson, it is tough to envision him remaining in the fold. The Lakers seem like a strange potential landing spot, though, considering the makeup of their roster. They already have a pair of promising point guards in Russell and Jordan Clarkson. They also boast Kobe Bryant and Nick Young at the shooting guard position with Williams coming off the bench.Lawson would be a truer point guard than the options Los Angeles currently have, but dealing for him would almost certainly muddle the backcourt situation.Nick YoungYoung's production dropped off last season after a career year in 2013-14, but he was still among the Lakers' top offensive threats at 13.4 points per game. His name has been the subject of trade rumors despite that, but it looks as though he may be staying put.According to Bill Oram of theOrange County Register, every indication is that the former USC star will be part of L.A.'s roster when the 2015-16 season commences:The 30-year-old sharpshooter likely would have been a casualty had the Lakers had more luck in free agency, but since they didn't land big-ticket guys such asDeAndre Jordan, LaMarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love, there was no need to dump Swaggy P's salary. Now head coach Byron Scott must figure out what to do with Young. The Lakers signed a better and more efficient version of him in Williams, although Young can play the wing, which is something Williams can't do because of his relative lack of size.Although starting at small forward is certainly a possibility, Young is probably best utilized as a volume scorer off the bench. He is a volatile player, but he can put up a lot of points in a hurry when he is on his game.If the Lakers limit his minutes and don't allow his role to become too big, which was the case last year, then he can still be an effective player for a team that is seemingly on the rise.Kevin SeraphinIn addition to the trade market, the Lakers also continue to explore the remaining options in free agency. There isn't much left in terms of big names, but there are still some solid role players to be had, including center Kevin Seraphin.According to Marc. J Spears of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers are among the teams interested in signing the 25-year-old big man, who spent the first five years of his NBA career with the Washington Wizards. The 6'10" Seraphin has always been a reserve with just 31 career starts to his credit, but he can provide some solid minutes and production. He is just a few years removed from a 2012-13 campaign that saw him average 9.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game off the bench. The native of France put up 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game last season, and he would slot in nicely behind Hibbert along with Robert Sacre on Los Angeles' depth chart.Seraphin isn't the type of player who will make or break the Lakers' year, but he is a former first-round pick with size and talent. He also doesn't figure to cost a ton, which should make him an even more attractive option.Provided L.A. can get him at a reasonable price, Seraphin would be a solid addition to a team that is quickly adding depth and quality to the roster.Follow @MikeChiari on Twitter.
