OPU charges indigenes abroad on community development

The general president of Osogbo Progressive Union (OPU), Ambassador Rasaki Shiyanbola, has appealed to the indigenes of Osogbo residing abroad to team up with the parent body to develop the Osogbo community. He said this at the presentation of medical equipment donated by members of the union based in Chicago, USA, to hospitals and health centres in the community, at the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun. While receiving the medical equipment which included 10 wheelchairs and 30 blood pressure equipment, Ambassador Shiyanbola noted that information available to him indicated that not all Osogbo indigenes in the diaspora contribute towards helping the community.He reminded those who shy away from helping their community to bear it in mind that they would have cause to relocate to their town of origin, when they would be asked to name their their contributions to their community while they were abroad' 'A majority of those who reside abroad will come back home one day. North, West or South, home is the best,' he said.While presenting the equipment, the president of the union in Chicago, Mr Jimoh Balogun, said the amount spent on the equipment was donated by members of the union in Chicago as part of their contributions to the community. Mr Balogun, who was represented by the former chairman of Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Alhaji Jimoh Aresa, noted that members of the Chicago branch of the union was committed to the progress of their community, adding that it was not the first time they would be contributing to the development of Osogboland, 'we have assisted in the establishment of Fountain University and we also gave scholarships to students that merit it, we gave them free education up to the university level,' he said.Speaking at the event, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Olanipekun, who was represented by the Ajaguna of Osogboland, High Chief Gabriel Oparanti, commended the indigenes of the town based in Chicago for their contribution, urging them not to rest on their oars.The equipment were received by the caretaker chairmen of Osogbo and Olorunda local governments, Mr Isiaka Faramade and Hakeem Okunade respectively.
