Flood: Committee recommends 2,155 houses for demolition in Oyo

OYO State government has earmarked about 2,155 houses for demolition as part of efforts at stopping flood in the state, while N197 million has been paid for the dredging of streams and rehabilitation of bridges across the state.The state Commissioner for Environment and Habitat, Alhaji Wasiu Dauda, told newsmen in Ibadan on Saturday after the sanitation exercise that the committee of experts, which carried out the assessment of structures that were affected by the August 26, 2011 flood disaster that ravaged Ibadan and its environs, had recommended 2,155 for demolition.The commissioner, who disclosed that the demolition would commence before April 15, however, hinted that not all houses marked would be demolished.He said the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development would still have to determine the genuity of the committee's recommendation.He further disclosed that contracts for the dredging of a total of 46 streams had already been awarded while 13 bridges had been approved for construction and rehabilitation.
