Time for jamboree is over, says Ogun governor

DETERMINED to meet its set objectives at the forthcoming National Sports Festival, tagged Eko 2012, Ogun State government has declared that it would only field athletes in its area of strength at the event.The government also declared yesterday that the days of carrying a full load of athletes and officials, who have no business at the games are gone.The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Gbenga Otenuga, who made the declaration while unveiling the seven sub-committees set up for the festival said: 'There is no more room for jamboree because Team Ogun will only field athletes who are fit for the games. We will feed athletes in area of our strength for optimal performance.'The commissioner stated that Team Ogun had what it takes to win the 2012 Sports Festival. He tasked members of the committees to put in their best in preparing the athletes for the festival.According to Otenuga, all arrangements are in place for the state's successful outing when hostilities begin in Lagos later this year, adding that Team Ogun would use the Eko 2012 games to confirm position as a leading state in Nigeria sports.The seven sub-committee set up for the games are Finance, Technical, Marketing, Accommodation and Feeding, Welfare and Medical, Media and Publicity, Transportation and Secretariat.
