Jonathan, Kagame, Soyinka, others for Delta summit

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has accepted to open the South-South summit to be hosted by the Delta State government. The programme is billed to hold from April 26 to 28, 2012.The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and Prof. Wole Soyinka have agreed to deliver the keynote addresses bordering on security and nationhood.Former award-winning Mayor of New York during the 9/11 attack, Rudy Guiliani, and other United States ex-army officials, including the former Chief of Naval Operations in the Gulf of Guinea, Michael G. Mullen, would share their experiences with participants at the summit.Briefing the media yesterday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who confirmed that the aforementioned personalities had agreed to attend, said the South-South would use the opportunity to showcase its key projects and learn from the wealth of knowledge of the speakers.The theme of the summit that begins tomorrow, according to Uduaghan is 'Development, Infrastructure and Security.'He said that these were the key challenges to growth in the region.Uduaghan who spoke about the origin of the South-South summit said it started when governors of the region met over three years ago and agreed to do something about the economy of the region. The maiden edition was held in Calabar, Cross River State.He added that at the Calabar summit it was agreed that a structure be set up to drive future projects in the region leading to the birth of BRACED (Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta) Commission.
