Delay in Salami's reinstatement, indictment on judicial system 'Aregbesola

Published by Tribune on Fri, 18 May 2012

THE Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, on Thursday, said any further delay by President Goodluck Jonathan to reinstate the suspended president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, as recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) will be an indictment on the judicial system and democracy.Speaking at the launch of three books: The Divine Road to Justice, by Dayo Olanipekun and Femi Akanni; The power 'force of Destiny by Kunle Oladipo and the Spirit of Mandate by Reverend Charles Ojo 'Israel, which were to commemorate Aregbesola's struggle before he became the governor of Osun State, the governor said the legal case on MTN call log, instituted by former governor of Osun State Prince Olagunsoye Oyin-lola and former governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, should not be an excuse to delay Salami's reinstatement.Aregbesola said the issue of MTN call log was not part of the reasons Justice Salami was suspended in the first place, adding that it should, therefore, not be a reason his reinstatement would be delayed. He stressed that when the NJC recommended that Salami be suspended, the president quickly approved it, wonderng why he should now delay in his reinstatement.Aregbesola said at the time Salami was suspended, the face-off between him and the former Chief Justice of the Federation Justice Alloysius Katsina-Alu, was pending in the court, adding that it never prevented the NJC from carrying out the suspension order.
