Champions League victory, my greatest moment - Mikel

Published by Tribune on Mon, 21 May 2012

CHELSEA midfielder, John Obi Mikel has said that his club's Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich on Saturday is the biggest event in his life. The Blues defeated the German club side 4-3 via penalties after regulation and extra time ended 1-1 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.'This is the best night of our lives,' Mikel told Sky Sports. 'I mean we've worked all season and people had written us off a lot.'But I think this is the biggest night of Chelsea's life,' he said. The Blues came from a goal down after Thomas Muller put the hosts ahead on 83 minutes. Didier Drogba's 88th minute header sent the match into extra time and he got the winning spot kick to emerge man of the match in arguably the biggest night in the club career of the entire Chelsea bunch of players.A playful Mikel grabbed the microphone from Sky's Geoff Shreeves as he made an attempt to interview club mate Salomon Kalou.'How do you feel tonight, men,' asked Mikel.'Great, men,' responded Kalou who looked willing to answer questions from his team mate as veteran Shreeves looked on, edged to the sidelines by the prankish duo.The two players who have been known to play pranks on each other then showed off a spider hair cut designed on the back of Kalou's head, which they attributed for the victory.'We did a great job,' Kalou finally told Shreeves who recovered his mic from Mikel. 'It wasn't an easy season, we fought, we came together to the club, and I'm happy that we've won the cup, that's the big one that we've been fighting for.'The duo then hugged each other with Kalou mouthing a big 'Congratulations my friend' as the camera zoomed off to other celebrating players.
