Golden Eaglets get Imoke's N2m largesse, tackles Canaan City FC today

THE camp of the Golden Eaglets yesterday was thrown into ecstasy when the Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke redeemed his pledge of N2 million donation to players and officials of the team.Imoke made the promise when he addressed the Under-17 National Team at the practice pitch of the U.J. Esuene Sports Stadium last Thursday 'so that your coming to Cross River State would be worthwhile.''I know it is customary that when I visit you, I must come up with a donation so that you can be buoyant enough to enjoy all the best things that Calabar has to offer and I would surely send something to you,' the Governor had told his ecstatic audience.Cross River State's Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Patrick Ugbe, gave the money on behalf of the governor on Monday.Thanking the governor for his gesture, the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) Director Technical, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, described the Imoke's deed as laudable, and thanked the state government for simultaneously hosting the Golden Eaglets and the Super Eagles.'We want to thank Governor Imoke for playing the role of a big brother to Nigerian football by assisting the NFF in hosting the Golden Eaglets and the Super Eagles at the same time,' Ikpeme said.'We are indeed very grateful because there are so many reasons for us to be grateful and we want to thank the governor for his donation to the Golden Eaglets.'On behalf of the NFF as well as our players and officials, I want to say 'a big thank you' to Governor Imoke again for always being there to assist us anytime we knock at his door.
