RCCG, Apapa family rehabilitates over 100 drug addicts

Over 100 drug addicts have been rehabilitated and trained for various vocational programmes by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Apapa Family in Lagos.The Presiding Pastor, Province 35 of RCCG, Pastor Remi Morgan, disclosed this at a news conference on the forthcoming 'Excel 2012' with the theme, 'Change catalyst.'According to him, most of the drug addicts were picked under the bridges and shown new ways of life in Jesus Christ, at the church vocational centres where they were trained.'The vocational programmes include barbing, bakery, and sewing. Some of them will exhibit their products at the exhibition to be organised by the church during the Excel 2012,' he noted.He explained that 25 of them had graduated, adding that church was in talk with some microfinance institutions to provide capital for the beneficiaries to start business activities.Morgan who was accompanied by the pastor in-charge of Province 34, Mrs. Sola Balogun and the Chairman Planning Committee for the Excel 2012, Pator Femi Obaweya, said that the church fed 100,000 people every year during the programme.He said, 'Also at this year celebration, the Apapa family will be feeding 100, 000 people as part of its programme of eradicating hunger.'Besides feeding thousands of people every year, Morgan said that all the 17 zones in the province; provide free foods for people every Sunday while it also used the occasion to dedicate endowment of the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye Chair in Mathematics at some universities in Nigeria.According to him, in 2009, the church launched the Adeboye professorial chair in Mathematics at the University of Lagos; in 2010, it launched the endowment at the University of Ibadan; in 2011 for University of Nigeria Nsukka while it will launch the professorial chair for the general overseer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in 2012.
