Grand cuts of the dream tailor

ADEMOLA Arewa, CEO of Lamode Creations, is surely upping the stake in the fashion business with his ready-made wears for men.The Abuja-based designer, who ventured into the needle and thread business in December 2001 while waiting to be mobilised for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, says he is into the business because of his passion for beautiful things. 'I love making people to look good, sweet and attractive.'According to him, 'I have alwaysloved fashion from my childhood and always come up with my own concept and design wherever I have need to make a new cloth.'With no formal training, he decided to try his hand on the business, to leave his creative designs on the wardrobes of those that admire good works. 'I never attended any fashion school; in fact, my designs are inspiration from God,' he says.What is always in his mind when designing new outfits for his clients''Attention to details and the desire to excel,' he says.Arewa, whose forte is giving the African print a unique touch, informs that the business has been encouraging.'I work with all sorts of materials depending on the design and the message I intend to pass, and the experience has been very rewarding.'Since he started the label three years ago, he has maintained a balance in his clientele base that cuts across different classes. But he specifically targets young men that prefer Western clothes to African attires.On how he sources his materials, he answers, 'locally and internationally.' Rating the industry, the Abuja-based designer, says, 'the market, though just evolving, has abundant opportunities for any hardworking designer to explore.'On the challenges of the industry, Arewa identifies, lack of 'finance, basic infrastructure, good training schools and modern equipment.'His vision'The self-taught designer, who sees Yomi Casual as his role model, hopes to see his designs in every man's wardrobe.He advises upcoming designers to be focused and always seek for knowledge, to improve on their creativity.
