The 'Uber for haircuts' is finally here

Published by Business Insider on Thu, 14 Jan 2016

You're overdue for a haircut. Correction: You were overdue for a haircut. Now your untamed mane hangs so far past your eyeballs, you look like a Nirvana tour roadie. But finding a barber shop can be a challenge and waiting in the queue takes time you don't have. Fortunately, a new app considered the "Uber for haircuts" cuts out the hassle.Squire, launched out of WeWork Labs in Chelsea, New York, allows users to discover nearby barber shops, make an appointment, and pay for the service and tip in as little as three clicks. The app filters salons based on your location, budget, and preferred style.Founders Dave Salvant, a self-described "finance guy," and Songe LaRon, a corporate lawyer, met at a house party in Harlem. They bonded while complaining about the long lines at their barber shops. The pair grew confident that the on-demand economy could transformthis arduous process, similar to how startups like Drybar made it easy forwomen to book a blowout.Repost: Book your next #haircut or #shave with @queencutsnroses on the #SquireApp! #GetSquire www.getsquire.com #iwatchA photo posted by Squ're Technologies (@getsquire) on Nov 6, 2015 at 10:10am PSTJoined by chief technology officer Yas Tabasam, Salvant and LaRon soft-launched Squire out of their coworking space in Manhattan. The app was such a hit, the company later landed $300,000 in venture funding from a WeWork consortium of executives.Squire currently works with 25 New York City-based barber shops, which give the company a cut from services booked through the app. They hope to expand outside the city in 2016.Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: Mercedes-Benz has created a car that literally transforms as you drive it
