TK Football Academy has emerged winner of the 2012 edition of Nigeria's foremost grassroots football competition, the Gulder Ultimate Five-A-Side football competition by defeating Sheriff FC 3-1 on penalties to claim the N5 million top prize.Sheriff FC walked away with N2 million while D Royal II FC got N1 million after beating Mandiba FC 3-0 to finish third. It was an exciting end to the three-month grassroots football fiesta, as the finalists displayed scintillating skills, much to the delight of the fans.In the end, however, TK Football Academy, led by its inspirational captain, Oghenovo Uzezi, and midfield general, Kehinde Ishola, scaled all hurdles. The Most Valuable award went to Kabiru Nasiru of Sheriff FC, while the Golden Booth went to Kehinde Ishola of TK Football Academy, who had nine goals. The awardees got N100,000 each.Super Eagles' former goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, and Henry Nwosu presented the awards to the winners. Speaking on the event, Marketing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc., Walter Drenthe, expressed satisfaction at the event, stating that the competition was company's contribution to the development of grassroots football in the Nigeria'What we have just witnessed today is Nigerian Breweries' contribution to the development of Nigerian football. The 2012 Gulder Ultimate Five-A-Side competition went round the nooks and crannies of the country, seeking the best talents, and we are happy to have these young lads as champions' today,' he said.The company's Marketing Manager (Lager), Tony Agenmonmen, further called on corporate bodies to join hands in developing Nigerian football, saying: 'I want to call on all corporate bodies across the country to join hands in supporting grassroots football.'This country will reap the benefits of harnessing talents from the grassroots. That is the philosophy behind Gulder Five-A-Side.'However, it was not a solely football affair as ace music act, Ice Prince's performance eased the tense atmosphere with some of his hit songs, which the crowd truly appreciated. There was also dancing competition in both male and female categories, winners of which went home with prizes.
