Akpabio urges PDP to set agenda on national issues

THE Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, has tasked members of the National Working Committee of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to allow agenda setting on national issues remain one of its priorities during their retreat.Chief Akpabio, speaking on Sunday, when the members, led by the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who are currently on a four-day retreat in the state, paid him a visit at the Governor's Lodge, Uyo, said it was better doing this, due to the party's achievements at the national and state levels, than being on the defensive.According to the governor, 'it was PDP that introduced the Global Satellite Mobile Communication (GSM) into Nigeria and it became the fastest growing telecommunications in Africa. But you will not hear this at the national level.'You allow people to drive a process for you. You allow people to set agenda and then you come up in the defensive. You should be the one to set the agenda for national discuss.'If you want to talk, the government of Nigeria belongs to PDP. How come the party does not talk about its achievements at the national level' People say all sorts of things in the newspapers about PDP... So, the party must not allow the opposition to spoil what they have laboured for many years ago. The party must tell the whole world and Nigeria what they doing.'' Akpabio enumerated the achievements of his administration to include free education, a banquet hall, the new governor's office, 268 urban roads, five hospitals and world-class entertainment centres, among others, attributing this to team work and proper budgeting of 80 per cent for capital projects and 20 per cent for recurrent expenditure.He challenged them to discuss at the retreat on the work with President Goodluck Jonathan to achieve the transformation agenda of the Federal Government, a feat replicated by the Akwa Ibom government in what is popularly known as ''uncommon transformation.
