PDP defends Jonathan over asset declaration

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, debunked media reports which accused President Godluck Jonathan of violating sections of its manifesto, by refusing to make public his assets.In a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metu and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the party said the reference to its manifesto in the said publication 'is baseless, as provisions compelling elected officials to publicly declare their assets are non-existent in our approved manifesto or in any of the official documents of the party.'According to the PDP, 'for the avoidance of doubt, the said document which formed the basis of the report is not an official document of the PDP and cannot, therefore, be used to mischievously tarnish the well-earned reputation of the president of Nigeria.'The statement said President Jonathan had duly declared his assets, in compliance with the provisions of Section 140(1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.According to the statement, Jonathan had completed relevant documentations and submitted same to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), adding that there was no further legal requirement in this regard.J
