NAPEP disburses N380m to 19,040 households

The National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) has disbursed N380 million to 19,040 underprivileged households in 27 states, Mr Danladi Kobi, said.Kobi, the Chief Press Secretary of NAPEP, said in a statement in Abuja at the weekend, that the payment was for the month of April and May Conditional Cash Transfer Programme (CCT) stipends to the poor.He said that the sum was part of the N1.5 billion expected to be disbursed by the end of the year and promised that the programme would ensure prompt release of the next batch of payments.He said NAPEP National Coordinator, Malam Mukhtar Tafawa-Balewa, had directed the state secretaries of the programme to ensure effective monitoring of the payment process to guarantee transparency and accountability.Kobi said that NAPEP would be sending out its personnel to monitor and evaluate the concluded first phase of CCT payments across the states. ``The national coordinator has commended some states, notably those of Akwa Ibom, Kebbi, Bauchi, Anambra, Enugu and Zamfara, for their effective partnership with NAPEP in the implementation of the CCT in their various states,'' he said. Kobi said NAPEP was committed to ensuring an effective synergy with relevant stakeholders in the fight against poverty and would plan ahead for the second phase of CCT for the year.
