Published by Guardian on Sat, 30 Jun 2012

MOJISOLA Somolu, the Creative Director of MO Makeovers, Lagos, is determined to make a name in the business of beauty creation. The graduate of English and Literature from the Lagos State University began living her passion of beautifying friends and relatives in 2001, when she set up her outfit. On how she came about the name of her outfit, she says, 'it came from the initials of my names, Mojisola Olubukunola and a nickname, Mo.'According to the CEO of MO makeovers, before applying make up on her client's face, she analyses it to give it a befitting touch and make the person come out better than before.'The facial features are my focal point; I need to accentuate those that would make them attractive and down play the features I think would make them uncomfortable,' she says.'Apart from this, I also ask about their looks and what they are comfortable in on a daily basis and use them as a background for my makeup.'Mojisola, whose role models include Banke Meshida-Lawal, Tara Durotoye at the local level and Sam Fine, Bobbi Brown and Danessa Myricks at the international scene, says, 'Nigerian makeup industry has come a long way compared to when I started. More artists are coming into the business and more Nigerians are producing makeup products that suit our needs and climate. This goes to show that we are making progress everyday.'On what stands her out, she retorts: 'Integrity, making clients comfortable and the way I sculpt the eyebrows stands me out from others.'Tips on how to use a concealer appropriately:' Use a shade or two lighter shades under the eyes to conceal dark spots.' Lightly strike the tap against rubbing, to help it stay on the spot you are trying to conceal.'Blend it properly to prevent a masked look.
