Women, smallholder farmers and the agricultural economy

For a while now, there has been a lot of talk locally and internationally about empowering small-scale or smallholder farmers. Since most farmers in many countries on the continent are not producing on a large commercial scale, the key to a true expansion and even explosion of the sector is to enable more farmers and agribusiness people to thrive at the macro level.
