RCCG members repair Opemipo road in Oluyole LG

Published by Tribune on Fri, 06 Jul 2012

The road network in some communities in Orita-Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo State, is in a pitiable and deplorable state, thus making life difficult for residents of the area. The situation is also making commercial taxi drivers, Okada riders, as well as private vehicle owners to lament. But members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Jordan Dew Parish, Opemipo Area,Agbaje community in Orita-Challenge, whose church is located at Opemipo Street, Agbaje, Orita-Challenge, Ibadan, said they can no longer keep quiet, watching the deterioration of roads in the area. The were particularly worried about Opemipo road, which links other adjourning communities like Babalola Estate, Ahoyaya, Agbaje, as well as other areas in Orita-Challenge area of the city.Members of the church, led by the Parish Pastor, Marcus Adetunji Farukuoye, on Saturday, June 30, 2012, as early as 8:00 a.m. converged on Opemipo road with repairing tools and equipment to work on Opemipo road. The RCCG, Jordan Dew Parish members even defiled the early morning dew as they all put hands on the road to fill all the potholes, cleared all the dirty gutters in the area, and also opened blocked drainages on the road so that there could be easy and unhindered flow of waste and rain water inside them. Some house owners and residents of Opemipo and Agbaje area, who were impressed by the work being done by the christian faithful, came out and joined them. Some members of the church like Mrs Laide Olakiu, Mrs Adeola Martins, Omolola Azeez, Omosola, Bimbo Fasesin and Dupe Olubeko who spoke with Community News on behalf of other members of the church, stated that the repair of Opemipo road became necessary when considering the importance of the road to people living at Challenge and Orita-Challenge, Ibadan.Adeola Martins said, 'we decided do something to make Opemipo road motorable when it became clear that the contractor that did the road did a not-too-good work, thus allowing a continous deterioration of the road even in less than six months after the road construction.'Just imagine the kind of gully on the road that was constructed in less than a year' Opemipo road as well as other roads in Agbaje, Babalola Estate and other communities in Orita-Challenge, are now in a bad condition. The roads are being eaten by gully erosion and filled with potholes. Should we then open our eyes and let the road claim the lives of innocent people' No, no, we won't wait for that time' she stated.
