Nigeria needs to build on D'Tigers Olympic Games qualification, says Bakare

COACH of D'Tigers basketball team, Ayo Bakare, has said that Nigeria needed to build on his team's qualification for the London Olympics by providing funds to enable the country become a world power in basketball.Bakare told journalists yesterday after his arrival from Caracas, Venezuela, venue of the qualifiers that Nigeria would no longer be looked upon as a minnow hence the need for the authorities to ensure that team stays at the top, stating that it was time for the country to start paying more attention to other sports, especially basketball, which is the only team sport that qualified for the Games.'Basketball is in a special position as demonstrated by our qualification for the Olympics. The success achieved by the team is no mean feat and ardent followers of the game will understand what I mean. It shows we have potential and are capable of dominating the world,' he said.'While not promising to deliver a medal at the Games, a process should be put in place that would propel the country to become a dominant force in the world. Our hope of being a superpower in basketball is far higher than that of football or any other sport.
