D'Tigers storm London for Olympics

THE nation's male Basketball team D Tigers still basking in the euphoria of securing an olympic qualification ticket will today converge on the Surrey camp of Team Nigeria to begin their journey to further olympic success, so says the chairman of the Nigerian Basket ball Federation, Mallam Tijani Umar, after taking some days off as recess.Umar who was speaking to newsmen in Abuja at the weekend said even with the shedding of the toga of innocence by their exploits in Venezuela, the boys still habour enough hunger for glory to shock the basketball nay the olympic world this month in London.Yes it appears the world has taken note of Nigeria now, but I tell you we still have enough fire in our belly to shock the world adding that the qualification feat was achieved because of the annoyance to rubbish the sceptism of Nigerians and even the government establishment that had no faith in the ability of the team before they left for the tournament.He reminded reporters that the last press conference the teams, technical crew had before departing showed a lot of sceptism on account of questions raised, but that they had to resolve to make history with an uncommon ability that can come out of a Nigerian when pushed to the wall.'Now we have made history because for the first time we went with largely players that were hungry to dorn the Nigerian colour for the first time.'Tijani Umar stressed further with some of the best technical hands in the business and players whose pedigree in the game are unquestionable success was only a matter of time. Noting that with the required financial backing the boys are rearing to go.It will be recalled that part of the problems of the basketball federation was lack of finance.
