Synod tasks judiciary on insecurity, corruption

Published by Tribune on Wed, 01 Aug 2012

THE Diocese of Ekiti-Oke (Anglican Comm) has called on the judiciary to rise up on the challenge of insecurity and corruption in the country by bringing to justice all those who breached the peace and the constitution.Rising from the second session of the third Synod of the Diocese at the weekend, the diocese, in a communique signed by Reverend Favour Olumakinde and Mr Jide Oguntoye, described the judiciary as the last hope of the masses and the catalyst for national stability and development, stressing that it should live up to people's expectation. The diocese, in the communique, also identified 'discrimination, tribalism and political rivalry' as the factors promoting instability in Nigeria and called on Nigerians to close the ranks and put out the fire of 'undesirable generational gap' among them. The synod, which attracted the Archbishop of Ondo Province, The Most Reverend G.I. Lasebikan, who was ably represented, the Bishop of Damaturu, the Right Reverend Abiodun Ogunyemi, who was the guest preacher/bible study leader as well as a host of other bishops and dignitaries, was held from July 26 to 29 July at St. John the Evangelist Church, Ilogbo-Ekiti.The synod identified discrimination, tribalism and political rivalry as the factors promoting instability in Nigeria and called on Nigerians to close their ranks and demystify the undesirable generational gap among them, regardless of religious differences. The synod commended the diocesan, the Right Reverend Isaac Olatunde Olubowale, for his original vision which had sustained the diocese since its inception and for his vision for the future as richly enunciated in this year's Bishop's Charge.
