Federation Cup: S/finals face postponement

Published by Tribune on Fri, 03 Aug 2012

THE nation's football house is thinking of shifting the August 15 date for the Federation Cup semi-final fixture forward or backward on account of the clash of date with the international friendly with Niger national team the Menas which has been sealed.Speaking on this, the Head of Competitions in the football house, Dr Sanusi Mohammed said with the way things stand, consideration for the international friendly holds sway.''We were thinking they would have given us a new date but they insisted on August 15, and you should know that we need that match because of our preparation for our crucial Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia later''. Stressing more on the need to shift the Federation Cup semi-final, Dr Sanusi said two clubs in the semi final have up to four players in the national camp on account of their invitation to the Eagles and the Flying Eagles.''Well we have received complaints from some of the clubs..I mean Heartland and Pillars that have up to four players in the national camp which commences this Sunday, noting that there is a law that favours these clubs in the football rules, that if a team has up to four players in the national team, they have a right to appeal for excuse. On the next line of action, he said the leadership of the Glasshouse will be meeting to decide on the need to address this tricky issue.''I think we have to do something about this because which ever way you want to look at it they have a point..we dont want to be seen to be standing on the way of clubs in realising their cup aspirations,'' he posited.
