THE cyclist hit by a bus outside the Olympic Park has been identified as Daniel Harris. The 28-year-old, from Essex, was fatally injured in the collision on Wednesday night, an inquest has been told.Coroner's officer Stephen Rodman told the brief hearing: 'Mr Harris was involved in a collision with an Olympic coach which was turning left and collided with the cyclist'It happened in a slip road outside the Olympic Park in Stratford at about 7:35pm on August 1st.'A bus driver was arrested last night after the rider is believed to have been dragged under an official Games double-decker used to ferry media between venues.Emergency crews including an air ambulance raced to the scene to save Mr Harris but he was pronounced dead at the scene in Hackney Wick, East London. The bus, with a pink Games Vehicle banner on the back, could be seen behind a police cordon next to a forensics tent and a mangled bike.Scotland Yard said the driver, in his 60s, was being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.Meanwhile Bradley Wiggins has called for new bike safety laws in the wake of the horror incident. When asked about the crash, he said the Government should be "legalising helmets to make them the law to wear" admitting he had been knocked off his bike on London's 'dangerous' streets. He added: "Ultimately, if you get knocked off and you don't have a helmet on, then you can't argue."You can get killed if you don't have a helmet on."Wiggins said later when asked for his views: 'It's dangerous and London is a busy city and a lot of traffic. I think we have to help ourselves sometimes.'I haven't lived in London for 10 to 15 years now and it's got a lot busier since I was riding a bike as a kid round here, and I got knocked off several times.'But I think things are improving to a degree - there are organisations out there who are attempting to make the roads safer for both parties.'But at the end of the day we've all got to co-exist on the roads. Cyclists are not ever going to go away as much as drivers moan, and as much as cyclists maybe moan about certain drivers they are never going to go away, so there's got to be a bit of give and take.'Wiggins said he would like to see the introduction of a law making it compulsory to wear cycling helmets.
