IT is no more news that the head coach of the country's basketball national team Ayo Bakare has resigned as the head coach but Tribunesports can reveal the main reason for his resignation even before returning to the country. The country's basketball team, D Tigers qualified for the first time for the Olympics but could not advance to the second round of the games having lost to Lithuania, France, Argentina and USA.The coach's resignation of his appointment according to Tribunesports findings, is in reaction to the fact that he is not appreciated by some of his colleagues back home and the fact that he qualified Nigeria for the games.Tribunesports learnt that some of the coaches and basketball personnel back home in Nigeria blamed the coach for the poor showing at the basketball event of the London 2012 Olympics and accused him of neglecting home based basketballers for the games, blaming him for parading foreign-based players who were not well-co-ordinated as a team. Also it was gathered that those opposed to Bakare wondered why Bakare should be the only coach selected to handle the national teamReacting to these accusations, the coach feels that since he is not being appreciated by his colleagues, the best thing for him is to quit.''The coach was not happy about comment by some of his colleagues who apparently felt left out and believed that he should not be involved ,so they have been saying a lot about him, backbitting and gossiping about him so he decided to leave so that another person would the job better,'' he said. The coach who will not want to be dragged into the issue simply said that his decision to leave stands and that it has nothing to do with the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) because the federation really impressed him.'' I have seen it all, so what is left to be done' I was the first to lead the country to World Championship in Greece and now I have achieved another feat by leading the team again to its first Olympic appearance so, let me leave so that another coach can do the job, mind you I'm leaving when the ovation is loudest'', he said.
