2 arraigned for allegedly stealing yam tubers

Two persons have been brought before an Apapa Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos, and charged with stealing yam tubers worth N20,000.The duo, Ismaila Hamzat (32) and Samuel Uga (28), of no fixed addresses, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.The prosecutor, Sergeant Uche Kalu, said that the accused conspired and stole the yam tubers belonging to one Mrs Limota Nuhu.According to the prosecutor, a vigilance group caught the accused with wheelbarrows loaded with yam tubers and handed them over to the police.He said that the offences were committed on Aug. 13 at 7up Bus Stop, along Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos.Kalu said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.Both pleaded not guilty.Chief Magistrate A. K. Shonubi, granted the accused a bail of N20,000 each with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 17 for further hearing.
