Some communities''Idio community of Ile-Ife, Osun State and Ido Ekiti in Ekiti State recently had some incentives to improve their lives through the provision of boreholes. The construction of boreholes in the two communities was part of the corporate social responsibility of Chi Limited, producers of over 20 refreshing drinks, through Chi Limited Foundation, which is focused on putting smiles on the faces of the people in various communities across the country.Residents of the two communities could not hide their joy as they rolled out the drums in jubilation and appreciation of the foundation's gesture for providing them with one of the basic amenities of life. The two projects which cost the foundation about N4 million will satisfy the potable water needs of over 40,000 people living in the two communities who had hitherto relied on other water sources such as wells and streams and were therefore, susceptible to water-borne diseases. While speaking at the Oke-Eleesa Compound which is the venue of commissioning of the Ife project, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chi Limited Foundation and the Bishop of Ife Anglican Diocese, Rt. Revd. Oluwole Oluranti Odubogun, stressed the usefulness of good water to the body. He noted that water is life as it constitutes 70 per cent of human body and for this reason, it is important for people to have access to clean water so as not to fall victims of diseases. It was for this reason; according to him, that the Chi Limited Foundation which is the social corporate responsibility arms of Chi Limited, came up with this unique way of touching the lives of thousands through the installation of boreholes for communities that have problem with potable water supply. The Chairman of the Executive and Management Committee of Chi Limited Foundation, Mr Michael Oyekanmi Onagbola, also added that for now, provision of potable water remained the focus of the foundation as this is the major way to touch the lives of the people especially, the underprivileged. The day was a memorable one for the community leaders, Chief Titus Ajumobi showered encomiums and prayers on the Chi Limited and Chi Limited Foundation for the lifetime gift donated to the community.Another member of the community, Mr Rasaq Ayoade, also praised the quality of work which according to him could not be compared to what they had seen in other places. In Ido Ekiti, the commissioning was held at Ekiti Parapo College and it had in attendance the Chairman, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Chief Bayo Adeniran, the Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, Oba Ilori Faboro, represented by Chief Kolade Ojo, and many dignitaries from within and outside the town.In Ido-Ekiti, Rt. Revd. Odubogun said the donation of the 200 feet borehole with facilities such as a 3.8KVA generator and a 5000-litre storagetank, was borne out of desire of the company to impact on lives of the people, especially the underprivileged, adding that it was in line with the corporate social responsibility policy of the company to sow part of its profit into people's lives. He decried the way government at all levels pay lip service to issues of provision of amenities not because of paucity of funds but because many of the leaders lack integrity. He enjoined all Nigerians to continue to pray that God should touch their heart but admonished all Nigerians to contribute their own quotas in their 'littlecorners.
