Institute tasks govt on new oil bidding round

FOR Nigeria to maintain its competitiveness in the global economy, there is need government to put measures in place to fast track the new oil bidding round which has been put on hold due to logistic reasons.Speaking at a press briefing to announce its 2012 international summit in Lagos on Monday, the President, National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Lugard Aimiuwu, explained that this would create business opportunities and attract international communities into the country.'For the country to move forward, put some oil bloc on sale and you have created some business opportunities and people would take the risk to invest, even international communities would scramble for it.'Speaking on forth coming international summit slated for October 3 to 5, 2012 in Lagos, NIMN boss explained that the theme of the programme is Achieving Business Growth in Turbulent Times, adding that the summit, which is built on value creation was 'designed to catalyse the growth and development processes of Nigeria, her citizens, both corporate and other stakeholders.'He continued: 'The Nigerian Economic strategy of vision 20-20-20 has targeted Nigeria's economy to become one of the 20 most developed economies in the world by the year 2020. This target has about eight years to go, by which time the economic players are expected to have made a decisive contributions to the achievement of the goals outlined under the vision.'As such, passage of events in recent times makes the achievement of the goal set in the vision appear daunting and therefore require a review of progress to date and the opening of debate regarding the vision attainment.'To this end, this year conference intends to highlight Nigeria's potential to grow and also examine complex issues impending Nigeria's economic growth and proffer strategy towards speedy achievement of the vision 20-20-20 agenda.'He explained further that the summit would enable stakeholders to discuss how to leverage on marketing profession to achieve real business growth as well as proffer ways of imbibing a strong marketing culture in order to accelerate economic growth.According to him, Nigeria is at the critical stage of its transformation course, adding that what the country needed currently is for programmes and events that would catalyse the advancement of the country to be put in place.'Nigeria is at a critical stage of its transformation course and Transformation is now, it cannot be postponed. We should help the present administration to advance by putting in place programmes and events that would catalyse the advancement and transformation of the country.
