Top Artists Join Life In My City Planning Team

RANKING art personalities have identified with the upcoming sixth edition of the yearly Life in My City Art Festival, Enugu by joining the Planning Committee. Nine prominent artists, teachers and curators signed on to the Local Organising Committee on Thursday, September 13 at a ceremony overseen by Board of Trustees chair and former Chairman of Union Bank of Nigeria, Elder Kalu Uche Kalu.Members of the LOC of the arts event include the chairman of the Enugu State Art Council, Obiora Anidi, Tayo Adenaike and Mr. Chris Afuba. Anidi is an internationally recognised sculptor and lectures at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical) as well as chair of the Board of the Enugu State Council for Art and Culture.Bona Ezudu is the prolific proprietor of Bona's Art Gallery in Trans-Ekulu Enugu, the first major art gallery in Enugu. The gallery was for many years the 'home' of a series of exhibitions of the AKA circle of artists. National and international art patrons frequently visit Bona's Gallery.Chris Afuba is an internationally recognised sculptor and Head of the Art Department of the Enugu State College of Education (Technical). His renowned work for Enugu Citizens and visitors to Enugu is the Otigba (Drummer) after which a prominent part of Enugu, Otigba Junction, in New Haven is named.Mr. Tayo Adenaike is a renowned artist, advertising executive and art teacher at the University of Nigeria. Others are James Irabor of the Enugu Station of the Nigerian Gallery of Art; Tochukwu Amano; Emeka Egwuibe; Uche Agonsi; and Tony Odeh.Life in My City Art Festival, which began in 2007, is an annual celebration of creativity and fresh talent in the Nigerian art landscape. It is the largest gathering of artists and stakeholders of visual arts in Nigeria, featuring exhibitions, talent contest, symposia and workshops.According to the festival Executive Director, Mr. Kevin Ejiofor, Life in My City 'offers the single largest exhibition of new works in visual arts featuring a broad exposition of works in five visual arts of painting, ceramics, textile, sculpture and photography.
