Oni congratulates new editorsPEOPLES DemocraticParty (PDP) nationalvice chairman (South-West), Chief Segun Oni, has congratulated the newly-appointed editors of the Tribune titles, Alhaji Debo Abdulai (Nigerian Tribune), Mr Lasisi Olagunju (Saturday Tribune) and Mr Sina Oladeinde (Sunday Tribune).Oni, who described the appointment as 'great,' said 'the trio of Abdulai, Olagunju and Oladeinde are thorough-bred professional journalists, who contributed immensely to the height that the Tribune titles have attained today.'The PDP national vice chairman, in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Mr Lere Olayinka, said the elevation of the duo of Olagunju and Oladeinde to the position of editor and the appointment of Abdulai as editor of the Nigerian Tribune was a reward for their diligent services, professionalism and dedication to duty.'Considering the track records of these three gentlemen, one can beat his chest and say that the dream of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, on the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publisher of the Tribune titles, will not die.'This is because, the trio of Abdulai, Olagunju and Oladeinde were bread and buttered journalistically in the ANN Plc and they are better equiped in the ideals and virtues of the media organisation to further take it to an enviable height.'It is my prayer that God, in His infinite mercies, will continue to give them the strength, wisdom and protection to give their best in these new assignments,' Oni said.Appointments, reward for excellence 'Alao-AkalaFORMER governor ofOyo State, ChiefAdebayo Alao-Akala, has described the recent changes in the hierarchy of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc as putting a square peg in a square hole.Alao-Akala made this known in a congratulatory message to the trio of Alhaji Debo Abdulai and Messrs Sina Oladeinde and Lasisi Olagunji, on their recent appointments as Editor, Nigerian Tribune; Editor, Sunday Tribune and Editor, Saturday Tribune, respectively.He also said the new appointments would complement the eforts to reposition the Tribune stable as a leading national newspaper, as demonstrated with the appointment of Mr Edward Dickson as the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of the titles.The immediate past governor of Oyo State, in a telephone interview with the Nigerian Tribune, said owners of the ANN Plc had, with the recent appointments, demonstrated their passion for rewarding excellence.'Dickson, Abdulai, Oladeinde and Olagunji are thorough-bred journalists, whose commitment to professional excellence can never be doubted.'Over the years, the quartet have demonstrated their professionalism and commitment to the ideals, which the founder of the Tribune titles, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was famous for.' he said.Oritsejafor, Azazi, Awe congratulate Tribune editorsPRESIDENT of theChristian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), General Andrew Azazi, as well as Lagos-based media consultant, Michael Awe, on Thursday, applauded the board of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publisher of the Tribune titles, for promoting deserved editors of the titles accordingly.Oritsejafor said 'the editors had, over the years, been discharging their duties passionately without bias. They rank among the most courageous few, who would not allow partisanship to taint their professional calling.'He, however, advised them not to relent in their efforts at exposing the ills of the society and promoting patriotic efforts for the benefits of the nation.The Christian leader also commended the Awolowo family for keeping the flag flying, several years after the death of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose zeal for political emancipation for Nigeria was central to the establishment of Tribune.In his congratulatory message, General Azazi commended the editors for their unbiased reportage of national affairs in all its ramifications.'Tribune titles are some of the most reliable media platforms where trusted editorial judgments are available. I'm very proud of these wonderful colleagues and friends; and particularly, I'm grateful to the management of Tribune group for promoting these gentlemen.Jang lauds new editorial teamPLATEAU State governor, Mr JonahJang, has lauded the appointment of Mr Edward Dickson as the new Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publisher of the Tribune titles.According to a statement issued on his behalf by the Director of Press Affair, Mr James Mannock, which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Jos, Jang said appointments of Dickson, along with Alhaji Debo Abdulai as Editor, Nigerian Tribune; Mr Sina Oladeinde as Editor, Sunday Tribune and Mr Lasisi Olagunju as Editor, Saturday Tribune, was a good combination that would further spur the organisation to greater height.The governor said the new editorial team consisted of seasoned journalists, who had carved niches for themselves in the profession and, as well, rose through the rank to the position.'Going through their track of records, the oldest surviving newspaper is in the hands of thorough-bred professionals,' he said.The governor, therefore, charged them to make appointments to spur them to work harder, while he prayed to God for wisdom and understanding for their duties.Amaechi hails new editorial teamRIVERS State governor, Mr RotimiAmaechi, has lauded the appointment of the new editorial crew at Tribune, calling them a team of trustworthy professionals.Amaechi said the new team consisted of tested newsmen and professionals in their field.In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr David Iyofor, Amaechi congratulated the appointees, Mr Edward Dickson, Alhaji Debo Abdulai, Mr Sina Oladeinde and Mr Lasisi Olagunju as Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief; Editor, Nigerian Tribune, Editor, Sunday Tribune and Editor, Saturday Tribune respectively.The governor express-ed the belief that the new set of editors had the capacity to take the Tribune to greater heights.'With their experience and expertise in journalism, coupled with their steady rise from the ranks to where they are now, there is no doubt that we would all see a Tribune of class and higher standards,' he said.Amaechi lauded the Tribune management for the wise decision and expressed the hope that the editorial team would leave no stone unturned to ensure accuracy in their publications.Ekiti ACN lauds appointmentsEKITI State chapter ofthe Action Congressof Nigeria (ACN) has lauded the recent appointments in African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, saying the appointments were 'round pegs in round holes.'A statement by the director of media and publicity of Ekiti ACN, Chief Tai Oguntayo, said the appointments of Mr Edward Dickson as the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief (MD/EIC); Alhaji Debo Abdulai as the Editor, Nigerian Tribune; Mr Lasisi Olagunju as Editor, Saturday Tribune and Mr Sina Oladeinde as Editor, Sunday Tribune were 'a step in the right direction in the quest to reposition the company.'According to the Ekiti ACN spokesperson, 'I can attest to the outstanding qualities of the appointees, having cut my journalism teeth at the Tribune, they are round pegs in round holes.'The party charged the MD/EIC and the new editors 'not to be partisan, but uphold professionalism in their new positions.'According to him, 'this is the only way through which the image of this oldest private newspaper in the country could further be redeemed.'He promised that the ACN in Ekiti State and the company would both enjoy better relationship in the new dispensation.Omisore congratulates Tribune editorsFORMER deputy governor of Osun State,Senator Iyiola Omi-sore, on Thursday, congratulated Alhaji Debo Abdulai, Mr Sina Olade-hinde and Mr Lasisi Olagunju on their recent appointments as editors for the Nigerian Tribune, Sunday Tribune and Saturday Tribune respectively.Omisore, in his congratulatory message to the newly-appointed editors, said their appointments would surely go a long way to stabilise the Tribune titles against the challenges ahead.He charged the trio of Abdulai, Oladehinde and Olagunju to see their elevation as a task to further contribute to the growth and development of the Tribune titles and the nation in general.According to the Peo-ples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, the appointments signified the recognition of their contributions to the development of journalism profession.Senator Omisore also commended the management of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publisher of the Tribune titles, adding that with the appointments, 'there is no going back in the determination to ensure strict compliance with its expected roles of informing, educating, enlightening and dissemination of information to the public.
