HIV/AIDS: Agency urges intensive campaign in Ekiti

DR Charles Doherty, the Programme Manager, Ekiti State AIDS Control Agency (EKSACA), has urged Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to step up efforts to bring down the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in the state.Doherty made the call in Ado-Ekiti at the quarterly meeting of officials of EKSACA and CSOs in the state.He urged the stakeholders to utilise available resources to further enlighten the people and care for patients suffering from the pandemic.Doherty also directed NGOs working in the 16 councils to forward the reports of their activities to the focal persons in their area to ensure proper record of their activities.The programme manager further enjoined the new NGOs collaborating with the agency to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by SACA to link up with other implementing partners.The agency's Community Mobilisation Officer, Mr Remi Ajayi, explained that the meeting was convened to review the activities of EKSACA and civil society organisations for the quarter.The meetings, he said, provided an avenue for review of the implementation strategies, sharing of experiences on the field, review of disbursement of World Bank grant and mobilisation of resources for NGOs.Responding on behalf of the CSOs, the Programme Officer of Malaria Global Fund Project, Mrs Bukola Adedeji, lauded EKSACA's efforts at coordinating the activities of CSOs.Adedeji, who described the relationship between the agency and the CSOs as cordial, advised all stakeholders to sustain the relationship.
